Only 4 months ago Russell Dykes founded Ardventures and he is already making the leading 4×4 magazines with his new 4×4 adventure and training business. Russ certainly doesn’t hang around when it comes to all things 4×4. You can download The Landy for free and buy a copy of the Landrover Owner International magazine via the links below.
A few photographs from this weekends tour of the Yorkshire Moors and Dales. The group consisted of the Ardventures Jeep Wrangler JKU followed by a Jeep Renegade, Grand Cherokee, a Land Rover D2 and 110. Everyone did a great job all weekend, and the tour was completed without incident under the guidance and instruction of Russell Dykes. If you enjoyed the tour as much as we did, please leave a review: https://g.page/Ardventures-4×4/review.
This morning we have launched our sister website, https://ardtrainingandevents.co.uk. ARD Training and Events offers professional training to businesses and organisations where certification is mandatory and informal training to individuals who want to improve their off-road driving knowledge and skills. We are an approved training provider to Mountain Rescue England and Wales (MREW). We also plan and manage product launches for industry-leading 4×4 manufacturers and have worked with Nissan UK and Jeep UK, most recently on the launch of the Jeep Wrangler JL.
As some of you already know, Russ founded Yorkshire 4×4 Treks in 2011 which later became Ardent Off Road. In August 2019, Russ made the difficult decision to leave the company he founded to establish a new business, Ardventures. The full story, written by Mike Trott, can be found in the October edition of 4×4 Magazine (www.4x4i.com). The magazine does require a subscription or over the shelf purchase but it contains some interesting facts about Russell Dykes, in particular, his career in the motor trade as a Landrover Dealer Principal and later as an independent workshop owner, leading on to Yorkshire 4×4 Treks and Ardent Off Road. It also explains the relevance of “ARD” in the name of the businesses Russ has founded and owned and his plans for Ardventures. It makes interesting reading and explains something about one of the best known and respected names in overseas 4×4 expeditions and green-laning in the United Kingdom.
We’ve just had a great trip travelling coast to coast, East to West, despite the rain, which made some of the river crossings interesting. Thanks to everyone for the great feedback; we’re incredibly pleased that everyone enjoyed the tour and look forward to seeing you again in the future. Did you know that you can leave a review on Google at https://g.page/Ardventures-4×4/review.
Due to the inclement weather conditions and after reviewing the condition of the lanes on the Yorkshire Wolds, we have decided to change this tour from the Yorkshire Wolds and Moors to the North Yorkshire Moors and Yorkshire Dales. The tour will, therefore, start at The Cafe Stop, Eastgate Square, Pickering on Saturday morning at 9 AM from where we will explore the North Yorkshire Moors followed by a day in the Yorkshire Dales on Sunday.
We apologise for any inconvenience but our decision is based purely on preserving the Wolds’ lanes which will be a mudbath due to the rain we have had. If we were to continue with the tour excessive damage would be caused to the Wolds’ lanes and that would be in contravention of the principles by which we operate.
We have renewed our SPOT Emergency Communications System. This little piece of satellite communications equipment enables us to stay in touch no matter where we are in the World, even when there is no phone signal. When you travel to the remote places that we do, maintaining communications at all times is vital to the safety of the group. Although we’ve never had reason to use it yet, and probably won’t, it’s best to be prepared. This is one reason amongst many you can have “trust in Russ.”
In addition to the above, Russ has done all the tours you join. In fact, they were recce’d and developed by Russ. Occasionally we may venture to new destinations but be assured that if we do, the tour will be called a “recce.” If you join us on a regular, organised tour you can have confidence in the knowledge that Russ has done them many times before and knows all the local hoteliers and garages where you can get your vehicle repaired and/or checked over should the need arise.
Russ is also a qualified RoSPA and BORDA instructor and is a preferred instructor to Mountain Rescue England and Wales (MREW). Who better to place your trust in when thinking about joining a 4×4 Overland adventure?
