Preparations (Please Read)

  • Proof of vehicle insurance (green card recommended)
  • Spare fuel and water containers
  • Recovery gear including tow rope and shackles
  • Compressor and tyre deflator
  • Off-road capable tyres (AT or MT preferred)
  • Basic spares (fan belt, fuses, bulbs, etc.)

  • CB radios may be illegal in some countries – check local laws.
  • Drones are strictly controlled or banned in parts of North Africa.

After this tour, you can boast about your Grenadier’s design being true to Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s concept. Our Grenadier has done everything and more that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos said it would do.

Thursday: Meet & Set Sail

📍 Meeting Point: Harbour Lights Beefeater, PO6 4SA (from 6 PM)
🕗 Ferry: 9:15 PM Portsmouth → Santander (Ferry not included)
What to Do Before Boarding:

  • Arrive at least 1 hour before departure
  • Fuel up beforehand (Tesco’s Fuel PO6 4SR – 0.5 miles away)
  • Collect 2-way radios & UK/Arabic fuel stickers

Friday: Relax at Sea

🕐 1 PM (UK Time): Group meetup at the Tapas Bar for a briefing and to collect Morocco road maps

Saturday: Arrival in Spain & First Drive

🕗 8 AM: Arrive in Santander, regroup, and hit the road
🚗 Route: 400 miles (8 hours) via quiet motorways, with plenty of stops
🏨 Overnight Stay: Hotel Acosta Vetonia, Almendralejo 06200 (Book your own stay)


🌍 Journey to Morocco

Sunday: Drive to Algeciras & Ferry Crossing

🕢 Departure: 7:30 AM, easy drive to Algeciras
🛳️ Catch the Ferry to Morocco (included)
🏕️ Overnight Stay: Beachside campsite in Asilah (Basic, but a great location!)
💳 At Tangier Med Port:

  • Buy vehicle insurance (£80 for 10 days)
  • Withdraw money (ATMs available)
  • Purchase SIM/Data cards

Monday: Drive to Marrakech (300 Miles)

🚙 Route: A1 Atlantic Toll Road (fastest option)
🏕️ Stay at: Le Relais du Marrakech – an Overlanding hub!
🌇 Options:

  • Explore the souks & Jemaa el-Fna square
  • Relax at the campsite pool with drinks & food

🏔️ Into the Atlas Mountains & the Desert

Tuesday: Tiz-n-Test & High Atlas Adventure

🛒 Last stop: Carrefour supermarket (no alcohol available)
🛣️ Drive: Via Tiz-n-Test Pass (One of the world’s most dangerous roads!)
🌲 Sights: Tree-climbing goats, rugged mountain terrain
🏕️ Overnight: Wild camping at 2500m altitude near Mount Toubkal
🧊 Tip: 4-season sleeping bags are a must!

Wednesday: Into the Wild Atlas

🏔️ Drive: Remote villages, canyons & highland meadows
📍 Route: Tiz-n-Bachkoum Pass → Foum-Zguid (stop for fresh bread & supplies)
🚧 Military Checkpoints: Small gifts (sweets/cigarettes) may help
🔥 Overnight: Wild camping at Lac Iriki – A stunning desert setting

Thursday: The Sahara Experience Begins

🏜️ Terrain: Sand dunes, dried lakes, rocky outcrops
🚙 Sights: Foreign Legion forts, remote villages near Algeria
🌌 Overnight: Wild camping under the stars near Oued Draa


🔧 Zagora & Vehicle Check-Up

Friday: Zagora – The Gateway to the Sahara

🏜️ Route: Sand dunes & riverbeds → Zagora
🛠️ Vehicle Service: Garage Iriki (£15 for a full check-up – highly recommended!)
🏨 Stay at: Auberge Chez-Ali (B&B included)Pool, gardens & cold beer!

💡 Note: All Moroccan campsite fees + 1 night at Chez-Ali are included. Upgrades to auberges, hotels, or Bedouin tents are at your own cost.

Saturday: Ultimate Desert Crossing

🌍 Varied Terrain: Mountains, plateaus, dunes, salt lakes
🏕️ Overnight: Wild camping under the stars

Sunday: Arrival at Erg Chebbi

🍵 Tea stop: Porta Sahara
🛒 Stop at Merzouga: Fuel up & buy BBQ supplies

Monday: Algerian Border Adventure

🏕️ Overnight: Camping at Rekkam Boudnib (Top-rated French-owned overlanding site)


🏁 The Journey North

Tuesday: Tarmac to Azrou

🛤️ Route: Ar-Rachidia → Cedar Forests (Monkeys & photo ops!)
🏨 Overnight: Unique Disney-style Moroccan campsite (Great food & tagines!)

Wednesday: Chefchaouen – The Blue City

🚙 Route: Through the Rif Mountains via Ifrane & Fez
🏕️ Overnight: Campsite overlooking Chefchaouen (Incredible views!)
🚶‍♂️ Evening: Walk into town & grab a taxi back


⛴️ Return to Europe

Thursday: Morocco to Spain

🚢 Route: Chefchaouen → Tangier Med Ferry → Algeciras
🛣️ Post-ferry: 100-mile motorway drive into Spain
🏨 Hotel: Booked depending on arrival time

Friday: Drive to Salamanca

🚗 Long drive, but worth it to stay in Spain’s hidden gem
🏨 Hotel: Booked en route

Saturday: Final Leg – Salamanca to Santander

🕗 8 AM: Departure for the 1 PM sailing
⛴️ Overnight: Ferry to Portsmouth

Sunday: Arrival in the UK

🕗 8 PM: Arrive in Portsmouth – The journey concludes!
