TOUR PREPARATION

UK Tours

  • It is always sound advice to have your vehicle serviced or at least given a thorough health check before joining one of our tours.
  • Your vehicle must have at least a low box and good all-terrain tyres.
  • All drivers must hold a valid full UK driving licence or the equivalent in their country of residence if joining us from outside of the United Kingdom.
  • All vehicles must be road legal, including having a current MOT (if required) and be taxed and insured.
  • Breakdown and recovery insurance is essential.

Overseas Tours

  • It is strongly advised that before joining one of our overseas tours you have your vehicle serviced and any defects rectified.
  • Your vehicle must have at least low box and good all-terrain tyres and a second full-size spare wheel is recommended, the only exception being the Balkans tour. Please contact us for more information.
  • All drivers must hold a valid full UK driving licence or the equivalent in their country of residence if joining us from outside of the United Kingdom.
  • An international driving licence must be acquired. Travelling to Morocco requires 1949 IDP Spain & 1968 IDP France. Please contact us for more information.
  • If your vehicle is owned by your company, you must have written proof from the company that you are permitted to use it on your holiday.
  • It is essential that you have the appropriate holiday and medical insurance to include repatriation. Make sure you obtain proof of insurance from your insurance company.
  • If on a camping holiday, it goes without saying that you will need a quality tent (roof or ground), and other essentials like a stove and table and chairs.
  • Even if on a hotels-based tour, we often stop in the wild for lunch, so it’s good advice to carry a table and chairs and a kettle.

Recovery Equipment & Breakdowns

  • You do not need to carry recovery equipment, our lead vehicles carry all the necessary equipment and we will insist you use ours in the event recovery is needed.
  • In the event of a breakdown in the UK, we will endeavour to get you, your passengers and your vehicle to the highway and within mobile phone coverage but once at that point we expect you to make the necessary arrangements to get your vehicle home or to a repair centre.
  • In the event of a breakdown on one of our overseas tours, we will recommend an appropriate repair/recovery centre. You will not be left stranded in a foreign country even if your vehicle cannot be repaired.

Spare Parts

  • You should carry the basics, such as belts, fluids and spare parts to repair known weaknesses with your vehicle.
  • Having your vehicle serviced or at least thoroughly checked by an appropriately experienced service centre will significantly reduce the risk of a breakdown.

Climate

  • Weather conditions can be variable on all of our tours all year round, so be prepared by carrying all-weather clothing and, if applicable, camping equipment.
  • You are strongly advised to consider climatic conditions in the region to which you will be travelling. For example, Morocco can be very hot and as we often carry perishable foods for lunch in the wild, it is recommended to carry a fridge.
