A Scenic 4×4 Adventure Across the North York Moors
Join us for a memorable day exploring the breathtaking landscapes of the North York Moors in your own 4×4. We begin the day at Café Stop, Eastgate Square, Pickering, at 8:30am, where there’s time for a hearty breakfast, a radio handout, a safety briefing, and a warm Ardventures welcome.
From the outset, expect big skies, sweeping views, and a true sense of Yorkshire’s wild, open character. Throughout the day, we’ll take in a variety of lanes, with plenty of opportunities to pause, take photographs, and enjoy the surroundings. We’ll also stop at a welcoming country pub for lunch.
It wouldn’t be a North York Moors trek without including Rudland Rigg. At around 10 miles in length, it remains one of the longest continuous green lanes in the UK. Running high along the ridge between Farndale and Bransdale, it delivers exceptional panoramic views across the moors.
Although the infamous “Rudland Rigg steps” were removed in 2018, the route has lost none of its appeal. Today, it remains a firm favourite—valued for its sweeping scenery, rich history, and unmistakable moorland atmosphere.
The North York Moors are home to a number of river crossings, each requiring careful judgement and respect. Conditions are assessed on the day, and routes will be adapted where necessary to ensure a safe and controlled passage.
The landscape itself is defined by constant changes in elevation. Expect a natural rhythm of climbs and descents as routes rise from sheltered valleys onto wide, open ridgelines before dropping away again. This variation adds both driving interest and a real sense of progression, with each ascent revealing expansive views across the moors.
